Challenge
Cairns Training Camp - April 30th-May
2nd 2011
Cairns turned on some magnificent
autumn weather for the participants
of the Challenge Cairns Pre race training
camp. The camp ran for three days
over the recent Labour Day long weekend,
and was headed by Noosa Tri Camps
head coach - former professional and
now coach Nick Croft and champion
age group athlete Jessica Fleming.
Half of the attendees travelled from
South East Queensland, with the aim
to familiarize themselves with the
area and the course for race day.
For three days athletes covered the
bike and run sections, with emphasis
on nutrition preparation in the lead
up to the event as well as the race
day itself. The course itself offers
some great scenery but will prove
tough during the second half of the
bike for the Long Course athletes
once the wind gets up in the run into
Yorkeys Knob.
The camp was well received and the
attendees now have a great final platform
to launch their last weeks of preparation
off to fine tune their training program
to ensure they will be ready come
the big day. The 2012 challenge Cairns
Camp date will be released once the
race date has been confirmed.
